Dear James,
I just wanted to send you this letter
describing my experience with the CMS80.
Let me start by saying
that I have used mulcher/chipper machinery for more than ten
years. In the early days I hire all types of
machines while for the last few years I have operated and maintained
my own petrol unit.
The Red Roo CMS 80 is my second unit and
compared with my previous machine (a Massport petrol mulcher
/ chipper) it is considerably
heavier and more expensive. Initially, when I ordered the
unit, I was quite apprehensive at the amount of money that I had
out laid. However, all of my concerns about the cost of the
CMS 80
faded away within the first day of use. The CMS 80 is simply
amazing at how much easier and more efficient it can make
mulching
and
chipping for the operator. I would confidently say the CMS
80 will process about three times the amount of material
as my old
unit
could per hour and with less effort from the operator.
I’m
sure I don’t need to tell you how tough the CMS80
is but let me relate one experience that I had. In one of
our mulching and chipping sessions I mistakenly (in an arm
full of leaves and
twigs) dropped a 250 (10”) x 6mm (1/4”) steel
rod into the mulcher ( I still don’t understand how
I didn’t
notice the rod. Even though I turned the engine off quickly,
based on the noise alone, I fully expected the worst. I was
absolutely
amazed that there were no broken or chipped flails or any
damage to the drum. On the other hand the rod was a mangled
mess. Talk
about one tough machine!
We own a bush block and are committed
to mulching the fallen timber and the leaf material. We mulch
and chip branches,
leaves, twigs,
and bark (from firewood preparation) every year. All of the
mulch we produce is used on our garden beds to reduce water
consumption. I have used the 45mm and 30mm screens. Naturally,
the smaller
screen hole size produces a fine mulch but the CMS 80 is
a little less
efficient with this screen. Although the holes on the 30mm
are quite a bit bigger than the Massport screen the CMS 80
not only
produces a much better quality mulch it does it in less time.
Stringy bark is very hard on mulchers and each
year we produce lots of it when we de-bark our firewood. The Massport
really
struggled with this work, often clogging and stalling.
Although I have pushed
the CMS 80 much harder than I ever did the Massport, there
have been no such problems with it –even with the
30mm screen.
The CMS 80 is well designed. I particularly
like the ability
to replace the flails without taking the drum out. This
was a major
undertaking with the Massport unit requiring the disassembly
of the entire mulching chamber. Of course, the four cutting
positions per flail is a winning design in itself.
In closing,
I can honestly say that I couldn’t be happier
with my investment in a CMS 80; it is tough, efficient
and represents great value for money. The CMS 80 has given me
more spare time
to do the things that I really enjoy – and you
can’t
do better than that. My only regret is that the CMS
80 was my second unit and not my first.
